Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables Guide

 Harvest-time produce at local stands and markets this month:

 Fruits: Apples, blackberries, blueberries, cantaloupes, cucumbers, grapes, peaches, raspberries, strawberries.

 

Vegetables: Lima, pole and snap beans, beets, cabbage, carrots, cilantro, collards, sweet corn, dill, eggplant, endive, escarole, kale, leaf lettuce, mustard greens, okra, onions, parsley, bell, hot and sweet peppers, potatoes, radishes, spinach, summer and early winter squash, turnip greens.

 

Produce Tip: With eggplant, look for smooth, deep-purple skin and heavy, firm flesh. Choose medium sized eggplant, and store it soon in your fridge’s vegetable crisper at 45°F to 50°F.
